Most “¾"” outside taps actually have a 7/8 BSP (G parallel) outlet thread. Standard ¾" BSP fittings are too small and 1" BSP is too big. 7/8 BSP Brass Garden Tap Connector for Farmers’ Taps and Large Outside Taps

If you have tried a standard ¾" BSP hose connector on your large outside tap and it was too small, or a 1" BSP that was too big, you almost certainly need a 7/8 BSP parallel (G) fitting.

In the UK, the majority of larger agricultural and “farmers’” bib taps (often stamped ¾" on the body) use a 7/8 BSP parallel outlet thread. The ¾" marking almost always refers to the inlet size that screws into the wall plate or pipework, not the hose outlet. This is a frequent source of confusion at garden centres and DIY stores.

This connector is for true 7/8 BSP parallel (G) threads only.

Some large farmers’ and agricultural taps use a metric M30 × 1.5 thread instead. If a 7/8 BSP connector starts but binds after one or two turns, you almost certainly need the metric version.

How to Check Your Thread

1. Measure the outside (major) diameter of the male thread on the tap outlet – it should be approximately 30 mm for 7/8 BSP (not 22 mm).
2. Check the pitch (distance between threads). 7/8 BSP is 14 threads per inch (≈1.814 mm pitch).
3. If the major diameter is ≈30 mm and the pitch is exactly 1.5 mm, you need the M30 version instead.
